To enact the University’s Curriculum Architecture (CA2020) changes and to meet the aims of the Faculty of Arts Strategic Plan, the L&T Team is utilising a rapid-prototying methodology called ‘DDI’ (Design, Develop, Implement) to facilitate curriculum change. DDI addresses some of the more complex issues in learning design, collaboration, sharing and reusability (Vlachopoulos, 2018). It was developed ‘in-house’ at Macqaurie University Learning and Teaching Center by Associate Professor Panos Vlachopoulos and Dr Deidre Seeto in 2014 – 2015, in response to the 2015 – 2020 Strategic Learning and Teaching Framework . The DDI methodology draws from the Carpe Diem model (Salmon, Jones, & Armellini, 2008), the concept of community habitats (Wenger, White & Smith, 2009) and tools such as the 3E Framework (Seeto and Vlachopoulos, 2015). It is distinguished from other curriculum-content development methodologies by its focus on a course/program-level approach to curriculum design, as opposed to unit-focused curriculum design. A holistic and connected course-level view of curriculum design promotes constructive alignment across units and courses, improving coherence, structure and clarify of students’ learning journeys.
