Induction and Training
The University and the Faculty of Arts offer several options for training and support for casual academics, tutors and new convenors.
Guides for Tutors
As a new sessional academic tutor at the Faculty of Arts, you are encouraged to complete the Arts Teaching Fundamentals Induction. This paid induction consists of a one-hour online module and a one-hour face-to-face workshop. You can claim for these two hours at the completion of both. If you don't have access to the iLearn course, please contact the Arts L&T team
Additional training resources:
- Additional training workshops are run by the Faculty during the session, targeted at new tutors, according to demand.
- There are several self-paced courses and workshops on Workday you will have to complete.
- Beginning to Teach is a 12-hour program designed to develop the teaching capability of those with limited or no experience of teaching.

Guides for Convenors
The iLearn unit Arts Teaching Fundamentals provides online guidance and information for new and experienced Unit Convenors.
You will find essential learning and teaching and administration resources that support the role of the Unit Convenor in the Faculty of Arts, such as setting up your unit, key dates and deadlines, and wrapping up your unit at the end of Session.
